I am a new user. I need help in finding info/pics/video on disassembling my 79 tilt column. I have the steering wheel off so far and have the little spring and shaft out as well. Idea Question

Autozone rents a tool to compress the steel plate under the plastic cover. it screws onto the steering shaft and pushes it down enough to pry out the retaining spring. Once you get that off, pay attention to the orientation of the pieces. It only goes back together RIGHT one way! Look for the wider slot on the inside of the steel plate and line it up with the wide spline on the shaft. You can put it back together wrong, and the spring clip will not fit into the groove, and it will make you crazy! The tires need to be pointed straight forward. It helps to take a photo of the whole thing BEFORE you take it apart so you have everything pointed in the right direction.
Also, the canceling can for the turn signal needs to be all the way to the right in the slot when you put it all together or the steering wheel will be pointed in the wrong direction.
Good luck.
