I do not understand the symptoms I am having starting my Trans am. When I turn my Key forward, none of my dash lights or sounds respond. Battery is fully charged, headlights, radio , blower, windows all function properly without hesitation. When key is turned to start position everything shuts down until key is released. Where do i begin troubleshooting? I have checked the obvious things..Batt, fuses...etc.
Thanks Bill |

It sounds like the BCM is not recognizing the key
Did you change anything or have new keys made? |

| No, ive only had one key since i bought the car in January. What does BCM stand for? I had that trouble in a 03 mustang years ago and ford calls it a transponder. How can I troubleshoot that? |

BCM is the body controll module
The key has a transponder and receiver
I have a chevy van do the same thing because someone put a remote start and the key they used to bypass the system in the remote start quit working
If it is the key issue it will have to be a dealer computer to figure it out |

| Well after lots of research I did some testing on my VATS/passkey system. I found that the resistor in my key is a #7 key which has a resistance of 1870. I now know that my lock cylinder is working appropriately because i checked the resistance downstream between the cylinder and BCM and its resistance is consistant. However, before I dish out the big cash for a BCM is there any relays or other cheaper components i should check before i commit? Is there any testing i can do to BCM to confirm it has malfunctioned? |

I have a friend at the service dept of my local Pontiac dealer
They are now a GMC and Chevy dealer but he looks up all that stuff for me
If i have to have something checked they hit me like 50.00 to hook it up and see what the Computer says
I would start by calling your local dealer and see if hey will help at all |
